How to build a Helium channel using mindmapping

You can build a Helium channel

Have you ever had titles swimming in your head and wonder how you could fit them all nicely and neatly on the shelves? Have you a channel that you want to fatten with titles and articles? Read on to find out how you can do either. Applicable to zone-building too.

Step 1

Think of a broad based word or phrase

Example: Special Needs

Instructions

Step 2

Use mindmapping and brain-storming tools such as SCAMPER to generate and link related content words

Eample: Special Needs - Learning needs, medical conditions, giftedness, neurological disorders

Step 3

For each content word, repeat Steps 1 and 2

Example: Learning needs - disabilities, difficulties

Step 4

Repeat Steps 1,2 and 3 for new set of content words

Example: Difficulties - in writing, reading

Step 5

Organize the content generated

Use a graphic table such as drawn in a word document, Google or Excel spreadsheet to organize content words into related groups.

The broad based word or phrase becomes the channel name.

The first group of generated words become sub-channels and next group of generated words become sub-subchannels.

Step 6

For each sub-channel or sub-subchannel, generate Wh questions

Examples: What are learning difficulties; How to overcome learning difficulties

Step 7

Answer each Wh question

Example: Learning difficulties are problems, conditions that impede learning; examples include reading difficulties such as partial blindness, dyslexia, blending words

Step 8

Reword content generated in Steps 6 and 7 to form titles or content word or phrase

Example: Learning difficulties: What every parent should know about Dispraxia; Learning difficulties: How parents can help their child with Dispraxia

Step 9

Seed titles

Wait for articles for the titles and do the necessary to have a bumper crop of well-written articles at the top.
